Christian Science has been my only remedy for many...
Christian Science has been my only remedy for many years. During this time one experience has given me particular cause for gratitude, because it demonstrated with positive proof the efficacy of Christian Science. I was suddenly stricken with what seemed to be a severe form of typhoid fever, almost immediately becoming unconscious and remaining so for twenty-one days. Under Christian Science treatment I recovered to the extent that I could walk about the house, but there remained evidences, both physical and mental, of my having passed through a trying experience. I was unable to comprehend the meaning of many of the simplest words. One day some words of the practitioner aroused me, and I saw that the spiritual idea could not be in material bondage. In a short time all manifestation of the discord had vanished, and I was well, strong, and happy. Following this illness another problem presented itself, for my hair fell out gradually until I was entirely bald. This baldness did not last very long, for I knew that the God who had so lovingly protected and cared for me before would not forsake me in my great need, and if all the hairs of our head are numbered, then I could not be deprived of mine. In a few weeks my head was covered with curly hair, and to-day I have a splendid growth of it.
Eye and ear difficulties have been overcome, also a broken finger was healed, so that I could soon use it without discomfort. I realize that just so far as I am honest, I am able to prove what Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 199), "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible." I feel that I must daily put into operation the understanding I have of this blessed truth, which eliminates fear, dispels sorrow, and reveals to us a God who is Love. The periodicals are bringing wonderful messages into our home. To say that I am grateful does not express my feeling toward God for giving to the world our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy.
