[Written for the Sentinel]
Victory
I Thank
Thee, God, for Thy correcting voice,
Which guides me tenderly throughout each day;
For, chastened by Thy love, I can rejoice
In sacrificing self to gain Thy way.
I thank Thee, too, for Truth that lifts me up
Above the ways of men, unto Thy throne.
Spare not the rod, nor e'en the bitter cup
Till I forsake my will and seek Thine own.
Whate'er I do, I need Thy sweet command;
Oh, keep my heart receptive to its word,
That I may learn of Thee, and understand
The blessings Thou hast given me, dear Lord.
