It is with great joy and thankfulness that I express my gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me. It is nearly nine years since this teaching was presented to me by a very dear friend. I was at that time crippled, and suffered day and night. For eight years I had not known what it was to sleep the night through or to be free from pain. My ankles and wrists were quite fixed, and more or less I was under the doctor's care all the time. Every known remedy was tried, including the water cure and radiant heat treatment, but it was all of no use. The specialist told me I was incurable and in a short time would be helpless. This made me feel very miserable, and life seemed hardly worth living.
I was weary and tired of it all. I could not comb my hair or dress myself and seemed at times to lose all strength, so that everything I handled fell to the ground. I was lame and could walk only with great difficulty and pain. Although a trained nurse, I had lost all faith in materia medica; but when I was first told of Christian Science I did not believe it could possibly overcome such acute pain. I was, however, given a pamphlet, and after reading that and Science and Health I decided to have Christian Science treatment. In about three months I was much better. I could sleep all night, the lameness had entirely disappeared, and to my great joy I was able to ride my bicycle again. My healing was slow, but this led me to study the Bible and Science and Health more earnestly, and thereby I have gained a better understanding of God.
I have also been healed of influenza, very bad colds, and severe headaches; but while deeply grateful for all this physical healing, I am more especially grateful for the spiritual uplift I have experienced—the great peace, joy, and happiness which Christian Science has brought into my life. I owe all I am and have to this religion, which has brought me untold blessings, solved every problem, and been my greatest comfort in sorrow.
