The Overturning

At this time when the very foundations whereon error built its citadel are being shaken and its flaunted banners fall and its cruel boastings die away, it is well to remember what is to rule the earth. Mrs. Eddy speaks without any shadow of doubt about this. She says (Science and Health, p. 565): "The impersonation of the spiritual idea had a brief history in the earthly life of our Master; but 'of his kingdom there shall be no end,' for Christ, God's idea, will eventually rule all nations and peoples—imperatively, absolutely, finally—with divine Science." Ezekiel's words also come to mind concerning the "profane wicked prince" of his day, whose iniquity was to come to an end. "Thus saith the Lord God; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: ... I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him." A long time ago the thought of the prophet was put into words which seem to suit this very hour:—

Turn and overturn, O outstretched hand!
Nor stint, nor stay;
The years have never dropped their sand
On mortal issues vast and grand
As ours to-day.
