"Science and peace"

Our Leader tells us on page 96 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" that "this material world is even now becoming the arena for conflicting forces. On one side there will be discord and dismay; on the other side there will be Science and peace." When the war clouds were gathering fast over our beloved country, and the trumpet call to our young manhood came, there was one Christian Science mother whose heart was filled with thankfulness to God, and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy, when she found that through her understanding of Truth she was enabled, without the slightest sense of fear or hesitation, to see her two young sons go forth as volunteers, to take their rightful stand for Principle.

Although this mother had been an earnest student of Christian Science for several years, her sons had seemingly taken but little interest, either in regard to reading or attending services. The mother's heart was never anxious or fearful, for she knew that sometime, somewhere, the blessed Truth would be revealed to them. Just before leaving for the training camp to which he had been assigned, the younger boy asked for a copy of our textbook, which was gladly secured for him. He soon began to write that he was much interested in the study of this book, and that he derived much help and comfort from the literature which was being supplied to him by the Camp Welfare worker stationed there. The elder son came home on a brief furlough before going overseas, and he also at that time asked for a copy of Science and Health. The first letter received from him, sent from "somewhere in France," contained this message: "Do not worry about me, dearest mother, for I am coming back to you whole and clean. I am reading the little book."
