We are told that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."...
We are told that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." I was to undergo an operation, but a week before the date fixed for it a neighbor handed me a copy of the Herold, with the remark that possibly I might find something in it that would comfort me. I read with great astonishment the testimonies of healing, and there was one which referred to a case similar to mine. I said to my neighbor I knew I would be healed because I had confidence in God. The next day I went to a Christian Science practitioner whose name was found in the Herold. Treatment was lovingly given me, and I cannot express in words the awakening to life which I experienced. After seven treatments I was completely healed of bowel disorder for which I had doctored two and a half years and which had caused me a great deal of suffering, also of acute stomach trouble, liver complaint, hemorrhoids, and nervousness.
My husband and my child too have experienced wonderful healings. Through the little understanding I have of Christian Science and my great confidence in our Father-Mother God my child was healed of an attack of paralysis in an hour and a half. I must add that the ninety-first psalm has been a great help to me. In it we read: "His truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night ... nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness. ... A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee." Where can error or pestilence find room when God, good, fills all space! My realization of the truth of these words was so clear that all symptoms of the disease vanished into their nothingness. The light of Truth shone around us. At another time my husband complained of a strain in his side. We took the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" and together went through a lesson outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, and when we had finished, my husband was healed.
I could write of many more blessings. The illumination of the Christ-teaching and the understanding of God are the true friends and the wealth of mankind. They mean our daily supply. I am deeply grateful to God and my fellow men who have helped me to search the deep things of God. I am also very thankful for our daily paper; in fact for all the Christian Science literature. It is very edifying. I acknowledge the great love of our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has enabled us to do good through the power of divine Truth, and am happy to have been accepted as a member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Philadelphia.
