Perfect Peace

The conscientious onlooker viewing the world's war asks himself the question, What can I do to help establish peace? The old saying worn threadbare by tradition, "Charity begins at home," can be promptly applied to the answer of his question. What of his own state of mind? What of his motives and methods? In order to learn the meaning of perfect peace it is necessary to possess the Mother love within as well as the Father power. By tireless thoughtfulness for others, by ever readiness to help the race, by leaving self behind in being reborn, and healing the mind of sin by applying the divine Mind, true service to humanity can be established upon the right basis.

The atmosphere of war should force the righteous through a baptism of fire to establish the right ideas which heal hate, tyranny, and greed, and thus pave the way for perfect peace. Turning to God and learning of Him will eventually bring this desired boon; as Isaiah says, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee."

Parents, relatives, and friends look upon their beloved ones going off to war with a sad pride and unconscious shock of fear if there are no spiritual ideas leading thought to God. The uncertainty of the future seems to make war more real to them. Christian Science at such an hour leaves the problem in God's loving protection, assuring those who are left behind that their mental work daily given will act as the armor of heaven to their dear ones at the front; and that the experiences of the latter can be made to work out better characters through the test of courage and endurance.
