Twenty-one years ago the Christ, Truth, was brought...
Twenty-one years ago the Christ, Truth, was brought to my consciousness, and as a result these have been years of peace and contentment, and life has been worth living. I am indeed thankful to God that I live in this period in which the truth given to the world by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, is now so widely known. For eight years prior to coming into Christian Science I suffered from conditions named by the doctors neuralgia and catarrh of the stomach and bowels. Every material remedy of which we knew had been put to the test and found wanting. My prayer for years had been to know and do the will of God, so when Christian Science was brought to my attention in my extremity, a few minutes of conversation convinced me that my prayer was being answered. The unfoldment to me of God as the giver of good only, brought back to my thought my childhood sense of God and that the Christ-healing was for all time. From that time new hope and courage were born in my consciousness, and I began to read the Scriptures from a very different standpoint.
Soon after this time I moved from the farm where I had been living to Council Bluffs, Iowa, where I was a stranger in a strange city. There were then very few people interested in Christian Science in that locality, but my desire for truth opened the way, and after three months some one loaned me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." In a few hours of study I realized that my suffering had disappeared, and it has never returned. Since then I have had daily proofs of God's presence and His power to overcome evil with good. I have been able to overcome ptomaine poisoning, also severe headaches, in a very few minutes.
I am indeed grateful for Christian Science literature and the privilege of attending church services. Many benefits have been received from the testimonies given at our Wednesday evening meetings. I am also deeply grateful for spiritual understanding, even in a small measure, for it has enabled me to be of some help to my fellow man.
