Mental Surgery

In "Rudimental Divine Science" (p. 9) our Leader says, "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases." I am very happy to be able to testify to the truth of that remarkable statement, having been healed of cancer through Christian Science.

Some years ago I called on an eminent specialist to have a medical diagnosis. The examination showed that there was a very large growth, which had caused the affected organ to become almost twice its normal size. The physician did not express an opinion as to whether it was a malignant growth, but advised me to return to him in six weeks and go to a nursing home to be operated on. When I left his consulting room that afternoon, it was clear to me and had been before then, that humanly speaking the condition was a matter of life and death; but I had no fear, that having been overcome before I called for the diagnosis. What I had to decide there and then was whether I should undergo the operation for the sake of my family or trust to Christian Science treatment.

Looking back over the two or three years since Christian Science had first been brought to my notice, and remembering how it had helped me when all human power had failed, I had no hesitation in deciding to trust myself to God's power, as revealed and demonstrated in Christian Science. I was sure that God could and would take care of His child, and so I surrendered to Him completely.
