In gratitude for Christian Science and what it has done...
In gratitude for Christian Science and what it has done for me I should like to write some words of thanks. I was brought up in the evangelical reformed religion, which is held to be based strictly on the Bible, but I found its teaching contradictory and there seemed no logic in all our human existence. From childhood I suffered from many diseases, and being like one without hope in this world, I thought the best thing for me would be to die. I, however, began to seek for the truth in books and in other religious congregations.
In this state of mind, I found Christian Science in the beginning of 1910. I can never describe or forget the wonderful illumination which came to me with the revelation of Truth. The scientific comprehension of God as Love enraptured my sense with overwhelming bliss. I felt myself in a consciousness of heaven, here and now, in which is no sin, disease, nor death. Then this light of spiritual understanding began to destroy the shadows of sick beliefs, and I was healed of a stomach trouble which had distressed me with its pains half my life. I was also cured of anæmia, neuralgia, and other ailments. These "signs following" were indeed cause for rejoicing, but what made me most happy was the recognition of having a life purpose as God's own child and to know how to love my neighbor as myself.
After about two years the stomach trouble returned as a result of fear because of my changed manner of living. I worked very hard as taught by Christian Science, and with the realization of divine Mind in which all action is harmonious and good, the trouble disappeared in fifteen days. Now I do not even catch cold, and when discord seems to appear, harmony rules in a short time through the application of divine law, the law of Life, Truth, and Love.
