Gratitude to God impels me to give my testimony in regard to the healing and sustaining power of Christian Science. I had pursued worldly happiness and success, sparing no means within my power to procure them. Then, when they seemed about to be mine the whole structure was dashed to the ground, and I saw that within myself or within the means which I had been using there was no power to remedy the situation. In humility and repentance I turned to God, asking for another chance. Almost at once the opportunity came,—a new field of work, a new environment,—and I accepted it as an answer to my prayer. My heart was so filled with gratitude that when Christian Science was presented to me very soon after this, it found a ready soil. I accepted this as a further answer to my prayer, realizing that Christian Science was the means and the way for the redemption of my life.
Since then Christian Science has done so much for me that I could not begin to tell all. Immediately upon beginning to read Science and Health I was enabled to take off glasses which had been used for about six years, and they have never been put on again. I have done more reading since that time than ever before, and have experienced no discomfort. Many other ills have been overcome, but it is of another phase of the action of Truth in human experience that I wish particularly to tell.
The work that I took up was new to me, being a responsible position in the schools of a good-sized city. I had to plan the course and make models for the art work afecting about one hundred and twenty-five teachers and five thousand children. Though I felt insufficient of myself to do this work, I believed that God through Christian Science would reveal the way, and truly ideas came to me as veritable revelations. Many times when I knew not what to do or where to turn, intelligence was given me to lead me out of the difficulty. In fact the finest work which I have done was done at just such times, when I was most willing to surrender my own will or pride of intelligence.
