[Translated from the German]

About a year and a half ago I came to Christian Science...

About a year and a half ago I came to Christian Science sick in mind and body as a result of great trouble in the family, which I thought at the time I would be unable to live through. I suffered with shattered nerves, melancholy, nervous stomach trouble, and all manner of complications. Our family physician could afford but little relief, and I felt I could not possibly continue that way. In my distress the remembrance of Christian Science, of which I had heard much good, came to me, and I thought that even if it should not help there would be one gain,— my faith in God would be restored. I asked advice of a neighbor who was an attendant at the Christian Science church, and she gave me the address of a practitioner, who came the next day and took up treatment. I also suffered very much with sleeplessness. After the first treatment I slept peacefully all night, and soon became aware of the fact that there was a steady improvement in my condition. Thanks to the great patience and love shown to me, the healing took place in about two months, and I am now free from all these troubles.

I would like to add here that a few weeks later I was quite suddenly taken ill with a severe attack of rheumatism, the pain being so intense and continuous that I seemed unable to use my small knowledge of Christian Science; in fact it seemed as if I would lose consciousness. After having suffered in this way during a whole night and day, I notified a practitioner, who sent word that she would begin with the work at once. Two hours later I was free from pain and went to sleep. I could not, however, move my arm; in fact several weeks elapsed before it became normal and I was able to do my housework. This healing particularly impressed me, and my heart was filled with gratitude to God and with love toward Mrs. Eddy, whose clear, spiritual thought enabled her to reveal to mankind this glorious truth. This new teaching is proving a great help also in my daily life.

Seven months ago I was put to the test—it became incumbent upon me to demonstrate the power of Truth. My sister-in-law, who was staying with me at the time, sustained an injury of the foot by knocking it against an iron bedstead. She paid little attention to this and finished her work, but an hour or two later severe pain set in, the foot appeared to be very much swollen, and she was unable to walk. She tried to read in Science and Health, but could not do so on account of the pain. As we did not have the correct address of the practitioner, I looked upon the situation as an opportunity to prove that God is our life, that Truth alone reigneth, and that disease has no power. I kept these facts before my thought and read the ninety-first and one hundred and twenty-first psalms; but I did not merely read them—I firmly believed what I was reading, believed that God would help. After about two hours of prayer I found my sister-in-law quiet and free from pain. Upon seeing me she asked: "What have you done for me? Did you pray?" I answered in the affirmative, and she cried for joy. Our gratitude to God was unbounded.
