In the report of a recent sermon there is a reference to Christian Science which needs correction. The preacher said: "Rarely, indeed, do we find a minister of today preaching the necessity for Jesus' death as the redemption price for the sins of the world. Why is this? Some would answer that they have become Christian Scientists and no longer believe that there is such a thing as death; and that hence they could not believe that Jesus died for sins." Christian Science teaches, in conformity with the Bible, that death is the result of sin. On page 472 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes: "The only reality of sin, sickness, or death is the awful fact that unrealities seem real to human, erring belief, until God strips off their disguise. They are not true, because they are not of God."

According to both Matthew and Mark, Jesus preached the gospel of the kingdom of God before he was crucified. The crucifixion could not therefore be included in his gospel (good news) of the kingdom of God. The real cross which Jesus bore, and which every follower of our Master must also bear till he has overcome the world, the flesh, and the devil is, as Mrs. Eddy writes on page 50 of Science and Health, "the world's hatred of Truth and Love." Christian Science teaches how to overcome sin and its effects through the spiritual understanding of Life, Truth, and Love.
