The statement attributed to the Rev. Dr. Cortland Myers, pastor of Tremont Temple, Boston, that the Christian Science church was losing members and that the sale of The Mother Church was planned, brought an emphatic denial of any such conditions from Clifford P. Smith, head of the publication committees of the church. Mr. Smith, in a statement to the International News Service, said:—

"Referring to the statement published, to the effect that the Christian Science denomination was fast losing in membership and that it had become necessary to sell The Mother Church, in Boston, it is false and utterly without foundation. The percentage of increase in membership, as reported in the annual business meeting in June of this year, was greater than in any previous year. During many years the membership has shown a steady and consistent gain. No sale of The Mother Church has ever been contemplated. On the contrary, during the past year it has acquired property immediately adjoining the church and publishing house amounting in value to over one million dollars in order to meet the increase needed for expansion."
