Words cannot tell of the many blessings that have been mine since I commenced to study the Bible in the light of Christian Science. When I was in high school, spinal irritation began to manifest itself, and frequent attacks of illness interfered greatly with what I wanted to accomplish. Later the attacks were much harder and longer. After a protracted illness I went to Chicago, and for many months was treated by one of the best specialists on nervous disease, but as my health improved I overestimated my strength and had a relapse. Another specialist was consulted, and the trouble was pronounced chronic spinal meningitis. I improved under his treatment, but the trouble again returned and I was confined to my bed for several months.
When Christian Science was called to my attention by a friend who had asked me to try it years before, in my ignorance of its teachings I would have nothing to do with it; but the seed of truth had been sown, and when next it was presented to me I was willing to investigate it. I commenced to read Science and Health in the spring of 1906, and after a short time threw away my medicine and have taken none since. My healing was gradual and perfect. That summer I had an opportunity to go West, but refused it, not wishing to go until my friends knew that I was well and what had healed me. The next spring the invitation was repeated and accepted.
While I was in the West, plans for our public library were under way, and one day I remarked to my sister that I would love to have the position of librarian. Thinking it was too soon to seek it, however, I kept still, knowing that God would give me the work I was to do. I returned home in October, and during the winter the position was offered me without my seeking it. This was one of the many proofs I have had that God does take care of His children; that all we have to do is to realize that there is but one God and to turn to Him for guidance in everything, knowing that He has not asked of us anything that we cannot do, and that as we are obedient the pormises are fulfilled.
