At the age of thirteen I was confirmed in a religious denomination against my own wishes, and for nine years looked in vain for a church that worshiped God "in spirit and in truth." My boyhood concept of true worship is most practically realized in the Christian Science idea of the one eternal God, whom the Hebrew instinctively loves; and because of what has been proven to me I know rather than believe that I have found a sure way to salvation.
In the early fall of 1911 Christian Science found me a wreck physically, and without a position in view for earning a livelihood. The healing was most natural, peaceful, and complete, for not only was I healed of the complications for which treatment was being given, but of other physical disorders, among which was a skin disease of twenty-two years' standing, and catarrh; also of the smoking and drinking habits. The physical ease, however, cannot be compared with the change in my mental condition.
After this glorious proof of God's power I decided to work out my business problem with the aid of Christian Science. Within a week it was necessary to decide upon one of three positions which were offered me. Two were similar in nature to the position I had previously held, while the third was outside my limited scope of activity. Mortal sense argued that I should not consider the third, but earnest desire allowed the truth to be heard, and that position was accepted in spite of the fact that it was new, caused me to live many miles from home, and offered only a meager salary, for it did offer the best opportunity to serve mankind.
