It is over seven years since I began the study of Christian Science. The way has been rugged at times, and my work has had to be done thoroughly, but this has made me stronger in faith and understanding. Just calling ourselves Christian Scientists and attending the services does not heal us either of sickness or of sin, but if we take up the study of the Bible together with the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and put its teachings into practice, discordant conditions will yield to the power of Truth. I have proven this beyond all doubt.
When I turned to Christian Science I was suffering from a nervous breakdown and other ailments, including stomach and bowel trouble. Three different physicians did all they could for me, still I was a great sufferer both mentally and physically. After a year and a half of dieting and suffering I called on a Christian Scientist and asked for some literature, which she sent me. I read the articles again and again, and received so much help during an attack of heart trouble, supposed to be caused by the disordered stomach, that I wanted to know more of this healing truth. I attended a service in a near-by city, but took my tablets along with me as I dared not leave the house without them. After the service I talked with the reader, who told me I could be healed and offered to lend me Science and Health. After reading the book for two weeks I laid aside all my medicine, as I knew the healing had begun, and went to the dinner table and ate what I wished without experiencing any ill effect. The healing lasted a long time, but the temptation came to be afraid, and I had to ask for help from a practitioner; nevertheless, I have been led all along the way and have been provided for.
Many beautiful demonstrations over error of all kinds have been made for my children and myself. A few years ago there was a disturbance which seemed to upset me very much and the old trouble appeared to have power over me again, but with the aid of a practitioner it was slowly but steadily overcome. The chapter entitled Prayer in Science and Health was most helpful to me.
