It is with a sense of deep gratitude that I testify to the good received through Christian Science. I suffered with melancholy and dreadful nervousness, and finally broke down and lost the faculty of speech. My maid-servant became frightened and hurried away to call a physician. It was found that my pulse had stopped beating, but the physician, looking into my eyes, said he believed that life was returning. Closer examination failed to reveal a physical trouble other than the fact that my nervous system was shattered, as he put it. He said that working was out of the question for the present; that I must take very good care of myself,—stay in bed, of course,—and then have medical treatment. He added that if I did not follow his advice, he would assume no responsibility and that I might be stricken with paralysis. He came three times on that day.

Although in this seemingly hopeless condition, I was not dismayed for one moment. I had often had similar attacks before, though not so severe, and also knew that "man's extremity is God's opportunity." As soon as I was able to speak I had a Christian Science practitioner called by telephone from a distance. She came and lovingly took up work for me, with the result that the spasms ceased and I was again able to work.

Almost a year has elapsed since, and I have enjoyed better health than in many years. My gratitude for Christian Science is great, for it has not only helped me in times of suffering, but what is more, it has relieved me of a sense of sorrow, discontent, and fear. My past experience has been a sad one, but I can see how God has helped me out of tribulation. I feel profoundly grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her explanation of spiritual being, which was declared by Jesus the Christ.
