St. Paul says, "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Though not wishing to be disobedient to this exhortation, I have already delayed too long in expressing through our periodicals my measure of gratitude. Christian Science has yet many things to teach me, but I am profoundly grateful for what I have already received, for the assurance that it alone, among all the doctrines proclaimed before the people of this day, can be correctly identified as the Comforter, or the "Spirit of truth," which will guide us "into all truth."
My path in the study of Christian Science "shineth more and more unto the perfect day," and an increased knowledge of the truth is gradually and surely improving my sense of health and transforming me from a delicate, sickly child into an active, healthy man. It is of inestimable value to know that man's divine birthright is not only immunity from disease, but also positive, robust health. I am especially grateful, however, to learn by experience that an honest, earnest study of Christian Science will likewise transform the character. Among my chiefest blessings I count the exposure and the expulsion of much selfishness, criticism, cynicism, aloofness, and so-called temperament. One cannot build up in his own thought a separate, personal self without obscuring his view of the one Ego, by which and in which all men truly live.
For these and many other similar lessons in Christian Science, and for the sustaining comfort of it in every hour of every day, I desire to give thanks to God, the giver of all good, and to the Lord Jesus, "that great shepherd of the sheep." I would also lovingly express my debt to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and gratefully mention the assistance of my teacher and my friends.
