Among the Churches
Current Notes
Richmond Hill, N. Y .—First Church of Christ, Scientist, took title on Sept. 6 to a plot of ground 100 by 100 feet, located on Chestnut Street, between Jamaica and Lexington Avenues. This, in conjunction with their present property, gives the church a frontage of 100 feet on Greenwood Avenue and 100 feet on Chestnut Street. On this lot they anticipate erecting a permanent structure. The house now standing on the newly acquired property will, after alterations, be used for a reading room and other church activities. The present church structure will be enlarged to accommodate the ever increasing congregations until such time as a permanent church is erected.—Richmond Hill Record.
Philadelphia, Pa.—On Sept. 30, Third Church of Christ, Scientist, held its first service in the new church edifice which is situated on Park Avenue below Berks Street. This church was organized May 3, 1914, since which time services havebeen held in Columbia Hall, on Oxford Street above Broad. In July, 1916, the plot of ground on Park Avenue was purchased. Ground was broken Oct. 15, and on Dec. 28 the corner stone was laid. The auditorium has a seating capacity of six hundred. The building and furnishing of this church, including the organ, will cost a little more than fifty thousand dollars.
Fostoria, Ohio.—Application for permission to execute a declaration of trust was filed in the Court of Common Pleas this morning [Sept. 22] by the Christian Science Society of Fostoria. The petition sets forth that the Fostoria society is indebted to the amount of twelve hundred and sixty dollars, and that the Trustees under the Will of Mary Baker Eddy will pay that sum if a declaration of trust is executed.
