If one thing stands out more boldly than another in the Old and New Testament Scriptures, it is the fact that God protects mankind. Turn where one may, there it is written down how God led those who put their trust in Him, fed those who called upon Him for sustenance, and healed those who cried unto Him out of their distresses. The Scriptures are constantly referring to God's nearness to and His presence among men.

Look, for example, at the ninety-first psalm. Who can read the wonderful, prayerful eloquence of it without becoming convinced that the man who penned it knew whereof he spoke; that he wrote from experience, out of the deep conviction of one who had passed through the dark waters of affliction with his understanding of the loving-kindness and protecting power of God strengthened and confirmed? Listen to these verses of the psalm: "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty;" "Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; there shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." They convey the impression that the psalmist had not only experienced divine protection from the assaults of the beliefs of evil and disease, but that he was also aware of the mental condition necessary and precedent to obtaining the protection. Is not this indicated in the words, "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High"?

Now, in the teaching of Christian Science can be found the truth which covers this question and explains all such references as those just quoted. For example, Christian Science teaches that God is unlimited, that He is all-inclusive being, that creation is the complete manifestation of His perfect spiritual being. Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, became aware of the truth, the same truth as was taught by Christ Jesus, that man is at-one with God; that man, being the spiritual idea of God, is never separated in the faintest degree from divine consciousness. Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science had the immediate effect of healing her from a physical condition which had been pronounced incurable; but it did far more, for it revealed to her that the whole human race could be healed of its sins and its diseases through a correct understanding of God. To put it somewhat differently, the discovery of Christian Science revealed, as had not been done since the days of the Nazarene Prophet, that divine care and protection exist as mightily now and are as available now as then.
