Prayer That Is Scientific

Prayer is the greatest agency for good in all the world. Human sympathy may seek to reach us and to help and succor us in many a trying position, but it cannot compare with the power of prayer any more than the floating straws men clutch at as the current carries them downward can compare with the strong rope which would bear them to safety. Prayer is the ladder which unites earth with heaven, by which men reach the angels and are inspired thereby for the pursuit of the ideal. Saints have striven to tell humanity something of its true nature, and poets have praised it in numbers which are imperishable. These lines of Coleridge, for example,—

He prayeth best who loveth best
All things both great and small,—
