If we are ready to subordinate the human will to the divine,...

If we are ready to subordinate the human will to the divine, our healing in Christian Science may be instantaneous. This was experienced about three years ago, when to sense I became very ill. I had violent pains in the chest and back, also a severe cough, attended by general exhaustion; in short, all the symptoms of an attack of lung trouble.

I earnestly endeavored to deny sense-testimony and relied on the power of omnipotent and omnipresent good. As I failed to experience any improvement, but had to lie down on account of the pain, the thought came that I should ask for help. Just at that time something occupied my thought with regard to which I could not see my way clearly, but there was the belief that I must persistently oppose or evade the question. This course, however, was not attended by peace and calm. While lying still, with the sincere desire to do the right thing in this matter, it became clear to me that nothing could be accomplished through my own will; on the other hand, it was evident there was nothing to fear if I remained conscious of the one source from which cometh good only, and that from this source would be forthcoming the strength needed to do right. On arising at noon I realized that I was entirely free from pain. I felt well and strong and needed no further help. This was three years ago, and the symptoms have not manifested themselves again.

This experience has shown me very plainly how Truth uncovers error before casting it out, and that when we have seen the error and are willing to relinquish it, we get rid of the discordant manifestation. I am very grateful for this lesson and thank God that Christian Science has come into my life. I also lovingly remember Mrs. Eddy, whose labors have made it possible for us to work out our salvation.
