Law Understood
While visiting a town thousands of miles from my native home, I became ill. The symptoms which appeared were those generally due to change of climate, food, and living, and the trouble seemed obstinate and unwilling to yield to the understanding of Truth which had been gained through the study of Christian Science. One afternoon, when I was feeling very ill and rather despondent, a friend came to visit me. The remark that I wished I could uncover the error which seemed to be making me ill and weak, brought forth the reply that there was a so-called law which said it always took a year for strangers to become acclimated. Later in the evening, when alone, I took the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and started to know the truth about law. The subject was an intensely interesting one, and time and place were forgotten as I read and pondered the wonders of God's laws as revealed to humanity in Christian Science.
When I arose to go to bed every symptom of illness had entirely vanished, and in the place of erroneous thinking was a deeper understanding of spiritual law, a fuller realization of God's infinite love to man, and sincere gratitude and thankfulness for the freedom which always comes when rightly sought. Joy had taken the place of discouragement, because I had proved that a knowledge of divine law, which is universal and ever present, had completely annihilated the false sense of law, which has no power to harm God's child when seen in the right light. I am very grateful for every manifestation of good, for every expression of divine Love to man, and as I grow in the knowledge of that Love which knows no evil, I find there is no limitation to the activity of Love, and no resistance to the operation of that law which blesses all who come within its divine influence.
Words seem inadequate to express my deep gratitude for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, whose pure and unselfish life was an emblem of sacrifice to the good of humanity. While giving us the opportunity to express publicly our thanks, she at the same time insisted that right thinking and right living alone are proof of the sincerity of our words. And so I pray that each day may be lived in closer communion with God, and every hour be more consecrated to active service in divine Love.
