It was about two years ago that I became interested in Christian Science. Since early childhood I had been an earnest seeker after truth, but although a member of two different churches and the wife of a minister, my experiences were never satisfactory to me. I could not make the things which were designated Christian activities seem real Christian work to me, nor could I be satisfied with the explanations of the passages in Scripture regarding Christian healing. After listening to long and seemingly learned discourses upon such texts, I would find myself more confused and dissatisfied than before; hence it was not to obtain physical healing, but to "know the things that are freely given to us of God," that I took up the study of Christian Science. I knew little concerning its works, and the criticisms heard from the pulpits had been very unkind, but they led me to the determination to find out for myself about this teaching. I brought to the investigation an earnest desire to know the truth, and thank God that in Christian Science it was revealed to me.
I have passed through many seeming trials while endeavoring to follow this straight and narrow way, but divine Love has led me ever onward, and the loving assurance, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God," has caused me to see in them only new opportunities to grow in grace and in the knowledge of God, good. They are no longer looked forward to with dread, for "perfect love casteth out fear," and I realize more each day the truth of our beloved Leader's words (Science and Health, p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need."
Since we have learned to depend upon God alone, we have had many beautiful healings. My eldest daughter, who had suffered much from severe headaches, was permanently relieved through the understanding of another young student of Christian Science. This same daughter had had two attacks of acute lung trouble when a child, and every winter since then had witnessed a struggle with material means against this, to us, dread disease. After we came into Science one absent treatment wrought a complete cure, and there has been no symptom of the trouble since. She has also been healed of a throat affection, an abscess, and a seemingly bad case of sties.
