Your valued paper published an article entitled, "How to Keep Well." The writer is most insistent upon physical examination, and Christian Science, as well as other methods, comes in for its share of criticism. As far as physical examination by a physician is concerned, we believe that it is every one's privilege to have a physical examination if he so desires, but we do not believe that it should be a matter of compulsion. People who turn to Christian Science for healing have as a rule been thoroughly examined by physicians and their cases diagnosed, but they were not cured through medicine. Many of these people are healed through the power of the Word as taught in Christian Science, and the majority of them have continued in good general health.

The "policy" which is criticized is the one which was recommended by the greatest physician, Christ Jesus. He healed and taught others to heal by the power of the Word. The approximation of spirituality as manifested through the Word of God was so clearly comprehended by the apostle John that he said: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. . . . And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." It is certain that it is not the purpose of cultured physicians and governments to take away anything from individuals who have grasped the teachings of Christ Jesus sufficiently to take him at his word and let his words abide in them, thus enabling them to realize the ability to abstain from all medical methods and to keep themselves well through his word.
