Words cannot express my gratitude to God, and my thankfulness...
Words cannot express my gratitude to God, and my thankfulness to our Leader, for the joy and peace that Christian Science has brought into my life and for the speedy healing of abdominal and stomach trouble. After being an invalid for ten years I turned in desperation to Christian Science. I had been under the care of sixteen doctors, some of them specialists, had been in nursing homes, and undergone operations, but had received only temporary relief from pain. I prayed to God continually for health which never came, and it puzzled me how a God of love, as the Scriptures declare Him to be, could afflict me so and expect me to be resigned. I once stayed with a Christian Scientist in Paris, but at that time was too prejudiced to make inquiries about it, thinking it was something contrary to Bible teaching.
Later on a friend was healed, and four years ago she lent me her copy of Science and Health, but I only glanced through it. Six months afterward I again consulted a London specialist who had treated me before. I was so tired of life that I begged him to operate, thinking things might be thus settled, but he would not do so as he thought there was small chance of my pulling through the operation. We therefore left the place where we had been spending some months, and went to London to undergo a milder treatment at the hands of a physician; but as there was a Christian Science church close to the place where we were staying, I went to a Sunday service instead of going to the physician. The following day I consulted a practitioner, and by the end of the week my ailments, which were many, had vanished. It seemed almost too good to be true, and I would like to prove my gratitude by helping others. I am very thankful for the Lesson-Sermons and for all our literature, which always contains a message to suit the hour; also for the knowledge that God is a very present help.
