I owned a copy of Science and Health for twelve years prior to my healing, but only occasionally looked at it. I sent my five children to the Christian Science Sunday school, thinking it was the best place for them, but never went to church myself and did not know much about the Bible. When any one became ill the family physician, a good man and a friend, was sent for; and so we jogged along until one day I succumbed to a nervous breakdown. I had three friends who were nervous wrecks, and had been so for years, and the thought that I would be sick like these women, perhaps for years, drove me almost frantic.

We sent for a doctor who was a professor at the university, and he called every day for three months. At the end of that time he told my husband he could do nothing more for me, that it would be wasting money to have him call any more. I knew something had to be done, but would not have another doctor, as I knew he was as good as any. My husband then spoke of Christian Science. I had wanted Science but would not say so, as I thought my husband was opposed to it. Now when he said, "Go ahead and get a practitioner," I did so at once.

I began to improve rapidly, and in two months was well enough to help pack things and move to California. It took me a year to get wholly well. I had a practitioner the entire time, and often called her in the night when I could not sleep. During this period I was also completely healed of hemorrhoids and, I may add, of self-pity and resentment. I am very grateful to God, also to Mrs. Eddy for showing us how to find God, good.
