In connecting Christian Science with "science falsely so...

Cheltenham (England) Chronicle

In connecting Christian Science with "science falsely so called," mentioned in I Timothy vi. 20, our critic is unable to offer any evidence in support of this assumption. Jesus said, "By their fruits ye shall know them," and for close upon half a century Christian Science has been giving rapidly increasing evidence by its fruits that God's "way may be known upon earth," His "saving health among all nations." This critic then draws attention to the word science being mentioned in only one other place in the Bible. Daniel was chosen for his "understanding science," or scientific knowledge and understanding of God, which Daniel applied to every act and circumstance of his life; never more so than when in the lions' den he proved "the life-preserving power of spiritual understanding" (Science and Health, p. 579).

It was this same scientific knowledge of God and of His law which enabled Jesus to overcome every material so-called law, whether in raising the dead, healing the sick, or walking on the water. Christian Scientists today, in the degree in which they possess this understanding, are healing the sick and reforming the sinner, thereby giving that proof of their Christianity which was demanded by Jesus of all who profess to be his followers. Christian Scientists have not altered the Lord's Prayer, as our critic asserts, but they have it in their text-book, Science and Health, in the form in which it appears in the Bible, together with what Christian Scientists accept as its spiritual interpretation.
