Christian Science takes the Bible as its sufficient guide to...
Hobart (Okla.) Republican
Christian Science takes the Bible as its sufficient guide to health and life. It takes God at His word, and those who have given it the careful thought and honest investigation as a great religious movement which it deserves, have found that its premises are sound and tenable, and that it does what it claims to do, and is healing the sick and reforming the sinner as no other system is doing today, because it is reasonable and practical. It teaches of God, and of man in God's image, and of our relation to God in a way that is reaching a multitude of thinkers the world over. It is founded on God, good, and on nothing else. In no sense is it to be classed with higher criticism, agnosticism, or infidelity.
Christian Science heals the sick and reforms the sinner, as was promised by the Master, through knowing the truth which he promised would make men free. It makes clear the distinction between error and truth, and it denies that evil is any part of God's creation, because we are told in the Bible that God created all, and that all He created was good, and not only good, but "very good." Christian Science classifies sickness and sin as error and as no part of the divine creation; therefore it is without any real origin or cause, and will cease when man recognizes his true being. There are many different interpretations of the Scriptures, and Christian Science proves its worth by its fruits.
The clergyman is in error when he infers that Christian Science ignores the Bible, for it leads its followers to a more earnest study of the Scriptures. It reveals a beauty and practicability that is satisfying, and it sustains its claims by its works. It is the testimony of Christian Scientists that Christ is dearer and heaven is nearer than before they knew of its beneficent teaching. Mrs. Eddy says, "The vital part, the heart and soul of Christian Science, is Love" (Science and Health, p. 113), love for God, and man in God's image.
