About ten years ago, at the time of a severe and prolonged attack of neuralgia in the head, after spending many sleepless nights and enduring much agony, I decided to try Christian Science. It was on a Friday evening that I made my first visit to the Christian Science practitioner, and after some conversation I asked for treatment. Upon leaving the practitioner's home I returned to my room and retired immediately, for I was in great need of rest and sleep, having been unable to enjoy either for many weeks. I awoke the next morning feeling like a new man, having slept soundly all night, and I felt greatly refreshed. There was still a deadened sense of the neuralgia, but the excruciating pains had ceased and I never experienced them again. Treatment was continued for one week, at the end of which time all trace of this ailment and of a chronic cold and catarrh in the head, with which I had been troubled for several years, had entirely disappeared.
The experience convinced me that Christian Science is indeed a powerful healing agency; but that was not all,—its moral influence was also taking effect. I began to study Science and Health and other Christian Science literature, and a Bible which had been stored away for at least three years soon became a daily companion and of the greatest interest to me. One of the first bad habits to yield to the touch of Truth was profanity, and in place of this my consciousness was being filled with a deep reverence and love for God, whom I was beginning to understand as infinite good,—not the cause but the exterminator of all human suffering, as well as sin.
For a number of years prior to my first knowledge of Christian Science I was an annual victim of hay-fever, but since the first attack was destroyed by Truth there has been no return of the disease. Through the teaching of Christian Science I am learning to look to God not only for the healing of physical ills, but for the supply of every need, and for wisdom to guide me in my daily affairs. Thus I am gradually coming to recognize that God, good, really is All-in-all, as the Bible declares Him to be.
