With a heart overflowing with love for suffering humanity, and thankfulness to God for the many blessings which I have received, I wish to send my testimony of healing, hoping thereby to help some one, even as I have been helped and healed. I joined a church when only twelve years old and tried to live up to its teaching as best I could, but as I began to study and reason out the Bible teaching I found there was something wrong either with myself or the teaching I was trying so hard to follow, for it did not harmonize with what the Bible taught me.

I was never very strong, and as the years rolled by my eyes failed me. Then I suffered from other conditions that are common to womanhood, all the time growing worse and worse, until it seemed as if I could endure no more. I was carried to several physicians, was given all kinds of medicine, underwent operations, and in fact everything possible was done for me; but I finally became a physical and mental wreck. I was an invalid for several years, but kept reading the Bible, and understood it better. I told my friends and loved ones that God could and would heal me if I could trust and obey according to Jesus' teaching. My faith grew as I read. I sent word to the most faithful members of my church to pray with me, that I might be healed, but they one and all said, "The time of miracles is past." So I turned to God alone, and received some light, for which I felt very thankful. God was surely leading me. That was in the year 1897, and I had not then heard of Mrs. Eddy or her book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures."

About this time my husband was taken ill and was sick unto death for months. The doctors said there was no cure for him, that they had tried everything they knew of in medicine and all had failed. Then a friend sent word to him that if he would read some Christian Science literature he would soon be well. After a few days this friend brought us some copies of the Journal. He and his wife had just been healed, but knew little about Christian Science otherwise. They gave us a practitioner's name, and my husband asked for treatment and was healed in a short while. I said, "As 'God is no respecter of persons,' He will heal me too," and so I was treated and healed by the same practitioner. I can never forget how glad I was when I got a copy of Science and Health. I drank in its teaching as a thirsty child would water. I read until one and two o'clock at night, and I rejoiced and praised God for unfolding so many blessings to me and mine.
