The Lectures

A very interesting lecture on Christian Science was delivered to the soldiers in the theater at Valcartier Camp by Virgil O. Strickler. In introducing the speaker Lieut. A. P. Allingham, of the 145th Overseas Battalion, C.E.F., said:—

Christian Scientists have no quarrel with persons who think differently from them, but only ask a fair consideration of their tenets. In speaking with a senior officer not very long ago, the officer said he had considered the subject very carefully and asked a number of people what they thought about Christian Science. They were all of the opinion that it was a good thing in certain nervous troubles only. The officer was asked if it would be a fair proposition for the brigadier-general to ask the firm or persons with whom the officer in civil life did business about the officer's fitness as a military leader, rather than his senior or brother officer who were in a position to know. Thus today one has come to the camp who is capable of giving an exposition of the truth about Christian Science.

The publication committee has maintained for several seasons, whenever possible, representatives in the military camps throughout the country for the free distribution of literature, and he knew that The Christian Science Monitor has met a want in the camp and stands as an exponent of clean journalism—a paper with magazine interest and world vision.—Quebec Chronicle.
