I became interested in Christian Science through attending a church service one Wednesday evening in New York City. While at this meeting all fear of a disease that had been a source of worry vanished, and it is needless to say that with the fear the disease went too. Of course I knew nothing of the Principle which had brought about this healing, but being anxious to learn what it was, on my return to Chicago I went to a practitioner to get the information. Christian Science proved to be the only religion that had ever seemed practical and reasonable to me, and soon after this I took class instruction.
Later a goiter manifested itself. The fear at first was almost overpowering, but I fought it out by myself until at last the fear was overcome. Although the swelling remained I did not let it worry me, knowing it would disappear. It has done so, and words cannot express my thankfulness for this healing. Not having been so alert as I should be, my old trouble, coughs and colds, returned. A year ago last winter I had a very serious attack of cold together with sore throat ; but this last winter I realized at the first manifestation of this difficulty that it must be overcome or it would get the best of me, and the next morning I was entirely free. A sense of pain in the eyes when reading has also been overcome through my own understanding of the omnipotence of Truth and Love.
All fear has not been destroyed, nor have I the perfect peace and confidence that should be mine ; but, as Mrs. Eddy says, "it is easier to cure the most malignant disease than it is to cure sin" (Science and Health, p. 373), and when I manifest more love, patience, and unselfishness, the other will surely come.—Margaret Cook McCormick, Chicago, Ill.
