[Written for the Sentinel]

Peace

On a marvel night, through a wonder-light,
Love led me around the world.
Nor afar nor near was a weapon of fear,
For the banners of battle were furled,
And all peoples sang till the ether rang
A pæan of praise to God
That sin had fled and sickness sped
And death stalked no longer abroad.

Nor in any place was there left a race
That smote with the knife for food,
And children played all unafraid
With the trusting beasts of the wood.
And the vision lives! It is Truth which gives
The promise of Life impearled
With purity, and of surety
Love will govern some day the world.
