Visalia (Cal.) Times

Dr.—tells us in the Visalia Times that "spiritual healing is a fact," and admits that "the church has been derelict in not recognizing truth;" but he insists that "disease and pain must be considered real," and then healed. Disease and pain are real to physical sense; so is darkness. And just as darkness disappears before the light, proving that it is not a reality or entity, so do disease and pain disappear before the Christ-consciousness, or the Mind which was in Christ Jesus. In the first chapter of Genesis, which contains a list of things that God created and pronounced "very good," we do not find sin, sickness, or death mentioned, and we are told in the following chapter that "God ended his work which he had made." The Bible further states that "without him was not any thing made that was made," and therefore God is the only creator. Jesus said, "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me." He destroyed sin, sickness, and death, and this proves that it is not the Father's will for such evils to exist.

The Christian Scientist does not "insist that his metaphysics can exorcise a blizzard ... or put to flight the many ills that flesh is heir to," but he does know that when Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," he meant what he said; and it is this truth understood and demonstrated which does destroy the false consciousness of sin, disease, and death. In regard to this writer's remarks concerning the "death-rate" affecting "Christian Scientists and other folks alike," his attention is called to the fact that Jesus made no distinction in favor of Christian Scientists when he said, "If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death." Therefore it is no more incumbent on the Christian Scientist than upon others to keep his saying in order that they may not "see death." The Bible calls death "the last enemy that shall be destroyed," and Mrs. Eddy states on page 426 of Science and Health that "sin brought death, and death will disappear with the disappearance of sin."
