Like many others, the writer has witnessed unmistakable...
Like many others, the writer has witnessed unmistakable evidences of the power of divine Love as revealed in our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," in which the author has unselfishly given to the world the result of many years of prayerful study, during which she demonstrated the truth of every statement before giving it a place in the work mentioned. Today thousands of grateful students are following where she led, though with less opposition than the author was forced to encounter at almost every step of what was truly a thorny way.
This tardy testimony on the part of the writer is not due to lack of appreciation, but to the fact that some of the most remarkable demonstrations witnessed have to do with benefits received by others who thus far have not made the acknowledgment which a deep sense of love and gratitude would seem to call forth. I may, however, mention as a personal experience the great uplift that followed the study of the Principle upon which all true healing, mental or physical, depends; namely, the recognition of the basic truth, the allness of God, the eternal, unchanging good, from which, as the grand old hymn declares, "all blessings flow," and which responds instantly to every appeal, if made in faith, "nothing doubting." Thus I am free to say that where there was discord, now there is harmony; in the place of seeming lack there is sufficiency; in place of fear there is faith; consequently, where darkness and doubt prevailed there is light and hope,—blessings, these, that the poverty of language makes it impossible adequately to express.
Many of the ills termed physical have been overcome. One such, that seemed a striking example, was the almost instantaneous healing of a deep and painful wound in my left hand. The pain was so severe and the flow of blood so free that the truth of being was for a brief moment forgotten, but it was almost instantly called to mind. As soon as it was realized, the pain ceased, the flow of blood was arrested, and although the wound was deep and gaping, the healing was so rapid that it seemed a miracle. What is equally remarkable to others, not the slightest scar remains. I may add, that after using tobacco constantly from childhood, all desire for the cigar or pipe that had seemed a necessity for so many years, was forgotten. No thought of abandoning this lifelong habit had occurred to me, and I cannot now say precisely when the craving ceased.
