I wish to express my appreciation for a better understanding...
I wish to express my appreciation for a better understanding of God and His goodness, as revealed to us through the study of Science and Health. The power of Truth and Love has been demonstrated many times where error seemed to abound. The first healing in our home, and the first we knew of Christian Science, was in 1904, when my sister was cured of an attack of rheumatism. She was confined to her bed, barely able to move, when a practitioner was called; but within two or three days she was walking again, and there has been no relapse. Having been afflicted for years with deafness, and receiving no encouragement from physicians, I too turned to Christian Science about a year later. After my first visit to a practitioner the words of Jesus kept coming into my thought, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free;" and the truth has unstopped my ears, so that I can now sit in church and hear with joy our Lesson-Sermon. We know that the truth does make us free, and it will complete its work in us in proportion to its occupancy of our thoughts.
Another healing in our home for which we are grateful was that of poisoning. My mother had a felon on her finger, and a doctor was called to lance it. This gave no relief, and in a day or so poisoning set in, the whole hand being affected. I asked my mother to let me write to a Christian Science practitioner, and she readily consented. She was given absent treatment, and her hand was healed in a short time. Thus again God's power and goodness were revealed. It is my desire to reflect this teaching in my life.
