Christian Science does not deny that sin, disease, and death,...
St. Petersburg (Fla.) Independent
Christian Science does not deny that sin, disease, and death, want, woe, and suffering, have a relative existence in human experience. But this Science does deny that any evil has the reality of absolute substance or being; it declares that every phase of evil can be scientifically abated and abolished; and to this end it utilizes the power of divine law. In this manner Christian Science is transforming personal experience and is advancing the general progress.
Christian Science is based on the teachings and practice of Christ Jesus. Although he taught as absolute truth that God is Spirit, and man is "that which is born of the Spirit," he also recognized a relative difference between physical health and physical disorder. In this he was perfectly consistent. Although he knew and declared that "it is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing," he consistently used this divine knowledge for the betterment of human conditions. Christian Scientists also, in so far as they have acquired the same spiritual understanding, are doing likewise. Therefore when Christian Science is tested according to what was said and done by Christ Jesus, it is found to be good in Principle and in practice; good in cause and in effect. It is, indeed, meeting human needs to an extent and by a method which promises ultimately to deliver humanity from the bondage of evil.
