It was the beloved John who wrote that God was Spirit

Newburgh (N. Y.) News

It was the beloved John who wrote that God was Spirit. It was the same consistent student of Jesus' teachings who wrote that "all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made." Now if like produces like, Spirit's creation must be spiritual; and if Spirit created all that really is, matter does not exist as a reality. Pursued to its logical conclusion, such a line of reasoning must inevitably lead to the extinction of the belief in suppositional evil and matter. It was on this basis of contending persistently for the allness of God and the consequent nothingness of matter that Christ Jesus rebuked the testimony of the so-called material senses by healing the sick, walking on the waves, stilling the tempest, feeding the multitudes, and raising the dead. This was the process to which Jesus referred when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

Thus, if our critic differs with Christian Science regarding the unreality of matter, he differs also with the teachings of the Founder of Christianity, for the Christian Science of the first century and of the twentieth are identical. If our critic doubts this but is open to conviction, he has but to make an unbiased and consistent study of the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and put into practice what he reads. Christian Science is Christian, because it destroys sin and sickness in every form; it is scientific, because it is demonstrated according to rule.
