In the fall of 1903, after being ill five years and undergoing two serious operations, I was healed through Christian Science of chronic stomach disorder and abnormal growths. My healing was instantaneous, but I had no knowledge of Christian Science previous to this time and could not seem to become interested in it, so being a regular attendant and member of another church, I finally gave it up. Five years later I accepted a position to sing in a Christian Science church and became very much interested in the services. Even then I did not give much time to study, but my little daughter and I called a practitioner when we needed help, and this was often, although there has never been a return of the growths or the stomach trouble.
In January, 1913, I was taken with what seemed to be nervous breakdown, as my work had been very heavy and I had not had time for the study of Christian Science. I tried one physician after another, growing worse all the time, and finally decided to try Christian Science again, after a physician said I could not be relieved of pain in the back of my head for three months. A practitioner was called and the pain left in two days, while in ten days I accepted a position. I have learned what it means to "continue" in God's word, and know that as I live in obedience to the spiritual law of harmony, as I am grateful for what I have and work at my problems with "patient continuance," I shall receive the bread of Truth, "which cometh down from heaven;" that as I "put off the old man with his deeds," I shall be clothed in the spirit of Truth and Love, for, as our Leader has said, "obedience crowns persistent effort with everlasting victory" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 118).
I never before enjoyed such good health as I have in the past two years and a half, and I am more thankful than words can express for it and for the happiness which the study of Christian Science brings to my little daughter and myself.
