I did not become interested in Christian Science through...
I did not become interested in Christian Science through the physical healing, but honest curiosity led me to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. As this teaching unfolded itself to me, I became convinced that it was the solution of the problem of life; that it was the truth, the religion of Christ Jesus, and I wanted to have part in it. For several years I had suffered from various ailments and was continually under a doctor's care, but while reading Science and Health I was healed of an hereditary disease pronounced incurable, and glasses were laid aside. Other physical ills left gradually, and my disposition was improved in a marked degree.
As I read and studied I began little by little to prove for myself and children the power of God to heal. My little daughter brought home a signed report from the school physician, stating that she had nasal growths for which an operation was necessary, and that the matter must be attended to immediately. I went to see the teacher, and told her that the little girl should have treatment right away, but not an operation. The moment I read the report I affirmed that God's child could manifest nothing that was unlike perfection, and whenever the thought of a diseased condition came before me I corrected it by a declaration of the truth of being. Soon I felt that the healing was accomplished, and when the physician again examined the child a year later he pronounced her in perfect health.
Although these healings were wonderfully satisfying proofs of God's love and protection, yet the spiritual awakening, the realization of the purpose of existence, and of the meaning of Jesus' command to love one's neighbor as one's self, have meant immeasurably more. My heart is full of thankfulness to God for this blessed truth that sets free from every human ill, and of love and gratitude to Mrs. Eddy for her service to mankind. My prayer is that my life may give proof of this gratitude in my daily deeds.
