When I was thirteen years old I suffered from what is called spinal curvature. One night the pain in my back was so severe that my parents called in our family physician, who said that I must not again stand on my feet, as he feared there was an abscess. I stayed in bed at home for a month, suffering intensely, and was then taken to the hospital. After many doctors and specialists had seen me, they finally agreed to encase my body in a cast, in order, as they thought, to straighten and strengthen the spine. I had worn this jacket four months when Christian Science was presented to me by an earnest and loving Scientist. After a diligent study of Science and Health, and under the careful guidance of this Scientist and a few helpful friends, I was completely healed in three months.

My healing was not instantaneous, but I learned many beautiful statements of the truth during the time it consumed, and they fell like balm on my troubled sense. The most wonderful part of my demonstration was the removing of the cast. Before coming into Science it took two physicians and three nurses with implements to remove it when it had to be changed, which was supposed to be every two months; but by constantly knowing that God is the source of strength, I removed it without any trouble. And how beautifully dawned the consciousness that God was with me! I stood free, unsupported by any material means whatever, and have done so ever since, though the doctors told my parents that I would have to wear the cast indefinitely.

While deeply grateful for this healing, I think I am more grateful for what this beautiful new-old truth teaches me, for the awakening which enables us to see man and the universe spiritually. In my school work I find that Christian Science meets every need, whatever it may be. These words of Mrs. Eddy's are forever true: "Every trial of our faith in God makes us stronger. The more difficult seems the material condition to be overcome by Spirit, the stronger should be our faith and the purer our love" (Science and Health, p. 410).
