A deep sense of gratitude prompts me to give my testimony...

A deep sense of gratitude prompts me to give my testimony for the Sentinel, a copy of which, some fifteen years ago, was the means of bringing me into this practical and provable religion. I did not take up the study of Christian Science because of any great physical need, but because its teachings appealed to me purely from a spiritual standpoint; yet Christian Science has done much for me in every way. It has freed me from the bondage of glasses after having worn them for several years. It has also freed me from much fear and anxiety, and has enabled me to overcome a lot of foolish pride and the habit of critical and sarcastic speech; in fact it has helped me greatly in the daily problems that come to all.

The sustaining and uplifting power of divine Truth in time of sorrow has been proved to me. On Thanksgiving day, 1913, my father was taken ill with acute lung trouble and in a few days passed away. When he first became ill I was filled with fear, having gone through a like experience with him some years before, and so I asked help from a Scientist for myself. My father was not a Christian Scientist and of course was attended by a physician. Divine Love most wonderfully strengthened and sustained me, and gave me great patience all through this experience. On the last night of my father's illness, when the testimony before the material senses was particularly sad and trying, my sister, a Scientist, brought me the Christian Science Hymnal opened at a familiar hymn, and told me to read it, as it would help me. I read it over many times, making it a prayer, and it was answered in that very hour beyond anything I could have hoped or dreamed. When tempted to give way to a sense of grief, I would at once remind myself of what God is, of what man is, of what Life is; and this would speedily soothe and comfort me. Since then I have indeed found God "a very present help." In another testing time in Christian Science I found this religion to be indeed the promised "Comforter," and I have been most wonderfully cared for. Christian Science has been teaching me many valuable lessons,—how to adapt myself more and more to changed conditions, how to take this truth into all the little every-day affairs of life, and best of all how to depend on and trust God as I never have before.

A few years ago I had the great privilege of class instruction in Christian Science, and in two weeks I learned more about God than in all my previous study. I do feel deeply thankful to God for this present-day revelation of Truth, and very grateful that Mrs. Eddy was good enough, pure enough, and ready enough to receive it. I am likewise most grateful for much wise and loving counsel, for many little acts of love from dear Scientist friends, all of whom have done so much to help me on my way.
