In an article by Mr.—appearing in a recent issue the writer makes the statement that "self-suggestion seems to be the principle that forms the foundation of Christian Science." or, at least, of what I understand by Christian Science." Now Christian Science, as expounded in the works of Mrs. Eddy, is a very different thing from what this gentleman imagines it to be. Autosuggestion, or self-suggestion, is nothing more or less than the exercise of the human will in endeavoring to displace one false belief with another equally false. Christian Science, on the other hand, is the application of the spiritual understanding of the words of Jesus, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Referring to the means by which he healed the sick and the sinning, Jesus said, "If I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you." The outstanding distinction between Christian Science healing and that of other methods is the moral change for the better and the spiritual uplift which the patient receives through its study and assimilation.
