With a heart full of gratitude I wish to give my testimony in order that it may help some one else. Until a few years ago I was a great sufferer from chronic headaches (which recurred so often that I was never entirely free from pain), also from bleeding at the nose, which was very annoying. I had also a growth on the back of my head, had suffered from catarrh since my childhood, and every spring the change in weather caused me many sleepless nights. Fear of lack of supply was ever present.

Between six and seven years ago we came to the United States from Germany with a desire to have a more independent life. Nearly one year after our arrival here I learned to know about this wonderful truth, Christian Science, and after the first attendance at a Sunday service at Third Church of Christ, Scientist, in Chicago, I knew that I had lived entirely wrong. I told my husband about it, but he did not care much. Nevertheless, I began to work quietly to secure a copy of that wonderful book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, our beloved Leader; and it was proved to me before I had read it that "thoughts unspoken are not unknown to the divine Mind" (p. 1), for the following week my husband purchased the book for me, although he was earning very little at the time. From the first Sunday service I had the understanding that God, Mind, is perfect in every way. Words fail to express my grateful feelings for the quick and wonderful change effected. All I cared for was to read this book, no matter with how great difficulty, and after reading for about a month I was healed of all the ailments from which I had been suffering. My husband could not help seeing this, and he gradually began to be interested.

In the same year, in the month of March, we purchased a little home, although we had only a small sum of cash in hand; but with the understanding that the real supply is spiritual and not material, we began to live a far different life, and tried to love our neighbors as ourselves. My daily prayer was for meekness and love, that I might live so that others would see the truth and walk out of Egypt into the promised land of spiritual understanding. In the following June my husband was promoted to a better position by his employers, and had more than double his former wages. He was also healed of chronic bowel and stomach disorder, entirely freed from the desire for liquor and tobacco, and is today a well man. He is an usher in Eleventh Church of Christ, Scientist, in this city. We had the help of a faithful practitioner only once, and that was after being one year in Christian Science. Error in the form of blood-poisoning manifested itself in a severe form, but this was overcome in a very short time. Since then I have been free from ills of every kind, and have been able to give to others "a cup of cold water" in Christ's name.
