The Lectures

Willis F. Gross lectured on Christian Science at Page Theater. Mayor M. Purdin, in introducing the lecturer, said in part: —

I have made some little investigation into Christian Science, and one thing impresses me very much, and that is, the profound peace that seems to fill the lives of those who believe and practise the doctrines taught. They seem to be above and away from the petty trials and troubles that vex the lives of some of us on the outside, and for that reason, if for no other, it would seem to be good for all of us. Those who believe the New Testament, must be convinced that the Master, when on earth, performed many acts of healing the sick, and that his disciples had the power to do those things. Somewhere in the dark and gloomy days of a gray and hoary antiquity this power was lost, or if not lost, was permitted to fall into disuse, until in the days of the nineteenth century it was again called into use and proclaimed to the world by Mrs. Eddy, and has since been practised by her followers.
