It is two years since I first became interested in Christian Science, and it seems an opportune time publicly to relate some of the many blessings that have come to me and to my family during this time. It has often been said that "opportunity knocks once at every man's door," but it would probably be nearer the truth to say that opportunity knocks continually at the door, sometimes coming in and awakening one from his dream state.
Christian Science found me at a time when everything seemed to be wrong. It took me greatly against my will to a Wednesday evening meeting, but during this first hour everything spelled "peace." The following Sunday found me there again, presumedly to hear the music, but as I now know, it was the call of Truth. This led to my going to a reading-room in search of literature. I was most courteously treated by the librarian, who ever since that time has been most kind in patiently advising me and answering my many questions. I often wonder if we really appreciate the very serious and important positions occupied by our librarians. Oftentimes they are the first ones to meet those in search of the truth, and what they say may be the very thing that either directs the inquirer to or turns him away from this great light which is doing so much for humanity.
Later on I took treatment, and this leads up to a case of physical healing of which I wish to speak. One of the things that preplexed me most in Christian Science was why Christian Scientists should ever be sick. In questioning the practitioner on this point she said: "Christian Scientists at this time are not perfect Scientists; if they were, they would never be sick. All of us at this stage are struggling along, some being more advanced than others. The only difference between a Scientist and a non-Scientist is this: a Scientist knows that when error, under whatever name it may be masquerading, whether sickness, disease, poverty, sorrow, or inharmony of any kind, appears in his consciousness, he has a remedy at hand which, if he will but apply it earnestly and conscientiously, will effect a cure." This made a great impression upon me, and it was but a few days before I had an opportunity to put it into practice.
