I note in a recent issue the account of a discussion of hypnotism and mesmerism before the Philosophy Club of your city, in the course of which the speaker attempted to explain that the "essential principle of healing is identical in Christian Science, New Thought, and the Emmanuel movement." Now the only possible way in which Christian Science may be explained intelligently is from the view-point of its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy, author of the text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." This book may be obtained at the public library in your city, and any one disposed to investigate the subject will find therein an entire chapter, beginning on page 100, devoted to mesmerism and hypnotism, showing how antipodal these agencies are to the teachings of Christian Science. Every system of therapeutics employing mesmerism, hypnotism, suggestion, or auto-suggestion, involves the influence of one human mind over another, and is therefore the antithesis of Christian Science, which recognizes one supreme, infinite intelligence, or Mind, which Christian Scientists demonstrably understand to be God, the source of man's true being, who alone "forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases."
