It is a sacred privilege to be able to testify to the truth...
It is a sacred privilege to be able to testify to the truth of God's many gracious promises to heal and to save. During the early spring of 1908 I was, to mortal sense, in a hopeless condition, due to organic heart trouble with all its complications,—extreme weakness, nervous breakdown, depression, sleeplessness, etc. The doctor's words on one occasion were, "At the bottom of the ladder, mentally and physically." Relatives and friends had been informed that I might pass away at any moment, and although I lingered many months in a distressingly helpless condition, receiving the best aid possible from materia medica and from those around me, the verdict was, "Incurable." Man's extremity, however, proved to be God's opportunity, for in a seemingly miraculous manner Christian Science came to my aid. By diligent and prayerful study of the Bible and of our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," followed seven months later by the other Christian Science literature, I am now able to say that I am perfectly well. In fact, I have no recollection of ever possessing such real health, peace, and joy as have been mine during the last twelve months.
For thirty years I had suffered much from severe headaches, which would continue days at a time. These have disappeared completely; and the need of glasses has also been overcome, although I had worn them daily for ten years as a preventive. Quite recently an optician of repute assured me that I required no aid for distant sight. I have also been freed from a tendency to bronchial ailments, although these were said to be hereditary. The consciousness of omnipotent, omnipresent divine Mind to direct and sustain me in all my ways, has banished fear of various kinds, particularly the fear of fire. The use of medicine ceased with the introduction of Christian Science, and sleeplessness left me during the first week of my study of the text-book. My complete healing was seemingly slow, but the spiritual understanding which has come with it, is indeed a glorious inheritance.
I am very grateful for all the kindness received from Christian Scientists when I was so irrepressible, so determined to see many of the persons who had been healed, although the nearest one, to my knowledge, was twenty-six miles away. A very happy privilege was class instruction! The various demonstrations in connection with it have given me great joy and confidence. During the last twelve months the truth has been put to the test in innumerable ways, but I realized that the seeming obstacles were just opportunities for demonstration, and so they have proved to be. Truth has triumphed over error, solving even domestic problems satisfactorily. I subscribe for all the Christian Science literature, which brings me rich mental food daily, and enables me to share it. My earnest endeavor is so to live as to be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."
